Day 9 | Delayed, Detoured & Still Together
Today was supposed to be the day we finally made it home. But if there’s anything this trip has taught us, it’s that sometimes God has a way of reminding us He’s in charge of the schedule… Miami thunderstorms and all.
We landed in Miami exhausted but thankful, ready to stretch our legs and wait for our last flight to Charlotte. We missed our early connection due to the delays yesterday so the plan was simple: grab some food, find our gate, count down the hours until we could hug our families and sleep in our own beds. But by 3pm our phones buzzed with the news we didn’t want—Flight canceled.
Cue a little panic, a few deep breaths, and then a quick rally. Our incredible team leaders and our superhero travel agent sprang into action. With all flights out of Miami canceled for the night, they found us a hotel where we could rest, regroup, and let the adventure continue just a bit longer.
Some of us headed straight to Target… there’s nothing quite like picking out a clean t-shirt and fresh socks when your luggage is somewhere behind an airline counter. Others wandered to a local restaurant for a bite (finally an ice cold diet coke), while some settled for hotel lobby food and good conversation.
We ended the night in the best way we could — warm showers, a soft bed (finally!), and belly laughs that made our tired abs ache. We swapped stories about the week, the people we met, the paint we spilled, the prayers we whispered, and the ways God showed up… again and again.
And so here we are… bags half unpacked again, flights rebooked, hearts still stretched wide. This unexpected day in Miami has been one more reminder that delays, detours, and thunderstorms don’t get the final word. God is still good. He’s still writing this story. And sometimes, a forced pause is exactly what we didn’t know we needed.
Thank you for every prayer that’s carried us this far—keep praying us the rest of the way home. We’re coming back tired but grateful, changed and ready to share the goodness we found tucked into every twist and turn of this journey.
